The first part of this test was for glucose fermentation with my results being +, which represented acid fermentation based on the yellow broth, and G, which represented gas end-products in the tube. My results came back +2, meaning that it was red after adding reagents AB followed by no color change after the addition of zinc. An explanation of the colors is that nitrate was reduced to non-gaseous nitrogenous compounds (NO3 NO2 non-gaseous nitrogenous products). The next test of the day was for Gelatinase. The results that I received were -, because my gelatin was solid which meant that no gelatinase was present. At first the results puzzled me because the table clearly showed that Proteus vulgaris was supposed to be positive. Instead of trying to proceed, I questioned the table and was rewarded with the results for the Gelatinase test being reversed. The third test was the Urease test and it came back +. This result led me to deduce that there was rapid urea hydrolysis and the production of urease was strong, both resulting in its pink color. The final three tests for the unknown lab were part of the SIM test, with S standing for sulfur, I standing for indole, and M standing for Motility. My sulfur test was +, because of the black color in the medium that told me sulfur was reduced (H2S production). The indole test also came back + based on the red found in the alcohol layer from Kovac’s reagent. This can be explained as tryptophan being broken down into both indole and pyruvic acid. The final test was looking for motility, with my results coming back +. I could tell there was motility because growth from the unknown was radiating outward from the stab line. Based off all of these test results, there was only one bacterium that my unknown could have been. One whiff of it could tell you what my conclusion was: it smells like Proteus vulgaris.

The data gathering station is usually the processing platform of the oil production. So, the SCADA system collects the information, transfer the information towards the central site back. The data that is gathered at the gathering station is then transferred to the further stages to interpret and analyse the data. The interpretation and analysis of the data is the key point for any of the systems to perform the appropriate controlling tasks to the oil rig processes. This way, the SCADA system is used for both monitoring and controlling the equipment of plant of the oil rig system. Typical Scada Components Figure: Typical SCADA Component Architecture The major and essential components of the SCADA system are communication server, company network and majorly, HMI or Human Machine Interface and PLCs. Initially, the remote station is set up and installed at the plant at the remote stations. The equipment is being monitored as well as controlled by the central host computer. The remote station here is considered as either PLC or Programmable Logic Controller or RTU or Remote Terminal Unit. The communication network and the communication server acts as a medium to transfer the data from one location to another location. The workstation here is considered as the location of the hot computer or master computer. Scada Architecture, Distribute Plc The most important architecture of SCADA system that is employed the platform on the offshore is known as distributed PLC. Here in this report, we consider larger conventional platform and its distributed PLC architecture. Figure: Distributed PLC Architecture In the distributed PLC architecture, which is a typical SCADA system for the oil offshore platform, there are major units, where various processed are done for the production. And each of these major units over the platform would be controlled through PLC exclusively. The PLCs and the respective computers that are used for the purpose of HMI are connected by the platform communication network. The objective of the communication network is to send the necessary commands to the respective PLCs and then also to receive the data or information from the respective PLCs. The platform communication network is essentially a redundant system for more accurate operations. It is essential, because in the case of the failure of the operation of the primary network, the communication will get switched towards the secondary network. Usually, there will be very small or limited information passes among the PLCs. It is because, each of the major unit is usually engaged by a local operator panel, so that the respective personnel is allowed to interact only with that unit. In general, the safety system of the oil rig is handled usually, by only one single PLC, among all the others. The platform would get monitored from the office at onshore through a satellite or radio or microwave link or communication. Most often, the onshore office operates limited control functions. The onshore office usually operates these limited controls, usually in certain instances, like bad weather, etc. There are multiple PLCs installed and operated for each of the major units on the platform. Each of these PLCs do work autonomously among the other PLCs. These PLCs usually establish the control of the system, even if the PLCs lose the communication from onshore. Though the communication is lost, though it is very rarely possible, for a significant time, the PLC takes the control of the unit and then shuts down the unit. Conclusions SCADA systems are vital in the oil rig platforms to minimize and in fact prevent the risk of human life and increase the production of the oil and natural gas products, through effective management by means of effective and accurate monitoring and control of the oil rig processes. Oil rig is an offshore platform, where a huge structure is set up to drill the wells deep in the ocean, either by making it fix on the ocean bed or making it float or by setting up an artificial island for temporary fixture. SCADA systems are employed in the oil rigs, with necessary redundant systems, to ensure that the huge structures are operated safely and effectively and to ensure to minimize any kinds of losses during the extraction and transfer of the product to the onshore storage site. Though SCADA is similar to the ICS, it stands special for the lager structures, like oil rigs, etc. SCADA for oil rig processes are established and developed to act as supervisory level systems and perform certain control operations. The offshore production system is a huge structure with major equipment for drilling and may also include the facilities to house the workforce. Pipelines are also connected to the oil rigs from the onshore to work as the channels to transfer the oil. SCADA system in the oil rig has various kinds of monitoring and controlling functions during the processing of the products, oil and natural gas and the system is a proven reliable system acting as the best monitoring and controlling management. The benefits of the SCADA system are discussed. A detailed architecture is presented and discussed for oil rig. A detailed SCADA methodology and detailed schematic are discussed with the respective figures. Components in typical SCADA system are presented along with the communication and coordination among them. The Enlightenment and the great awakening free essay sample

The Enlightenment, also known as the Age of Reason introduced a new spirit of thought and inventive analysis in 17th and 18th century Europe. Theories and ideas that had previously been accepted were now being challenged to be looked upon with an eye of reason rather than tradition. Key leaders in this movement of new thinking included Copernicus, Galileo, Locke, Franklin and Newton. Englishman, John Locke, was one of whose political works had the greatest direct impact on the revolutionary spirit in the colonies during the Enlightenment. In his essay An Essay Concerning Human Understanding, John Locke explained that humans learn only from experience. We as humans experience things with our senses and through reflection. His revolutionary view was that we are born knowing nothing at all. At birth, our minds are completely blank, a tabula rasa. Which is why being completely empty can be filled with what we know to be true through experience (History in the Making). The Enlightenment focused on the role of religion and divine right. This helped colonial America see that it was okay to challenge the King and divine rights. The role of God was challenged in this movement and allowed people to see that they were important. Also allowing people to realize they had the ability to shape their own lives. The movement resulted in new interests in literature, schooling and science. Newspapers and book publications increased and schools became synonymous with new towns and villages due to the enlightenment. Something interesting about the Enlightenment is that it was centered on the scientific method. It was also an absolute development in the knowledge and application of power that changed nature and the natural world to what it is known today (Russell J. Stevens). Back to Contents New colleges were established as a consequence. In my opinion, the building of new colleges is what brought these two movements together. The great awakening was a series of revivals in the first half of the 18th century. One outcome of the Great Awakening was the building of new churches to accommodate new members. Colleges like Harvard and Yale were built to train men for the ministry. In about a month or so, a very considerable work of God appeared among those that were very young; and the revival of religion continued to increase; so that in the spring an engagedness of spirit about things of religion was become very general among young people and children, and religious subjects almost wholly took up their conversation when they were together (Edwards: On the Great Awakening). This movement brought independence from the clergy. I learned that people began to take control of their own faith and religion in Europe. Many felt they could find God on their own without the church. I feel like this is what helped us better understand American History. If it weren’t for the church’s teachings, we probably wouldn’t be the way we are today. Mostly because if we didn’t know what they did wrong in the past, how could we know what changes needed to be made. The importance of European thoughts was spread to colonies through pamphlets and reaches beyond elites. This lead to ideas of equality. This questioning of the church leadership is what led to the questioning of other leaders. There was also religious conflict. One being the â€Å"old lights† versus the â€Å"new lights†. The old lights opposed the new worship style. While the new lights are in favor of this new style of preaching. John Locke once stated, â€Å"The Bible is one of the greatest blessings bestowed by God on the children of men. It has God for its author; salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture for its matter. It is all pure. † The Great Awakening was responsible for bringing about the acceptance of religious tolerance. Also, it made more churches rise, prepared Americans for the civil war, and helped shape the Americas. That is the most interesting thing about the Great Awakening to me. The fact that this movement helped shape the Americas is surprising. It focused on the emotional satisfaction of German pietists and stagnation in New England. Reassurance, direction and religious purpose was fulfilled by this movement. Christian faith and life united the people. This movement ended up reducing the relevance of clergy as believers and started to depend on their own conclusions. So that it is not because God is unmindful of their wickedness, and don’t resent it, that he don’t let loose his hand and cut them off. God is not altogether such an one as themselves, tho’ they may imagine him to be so. The wrath of God burns against them, their damnation don’t slumber, the pit is prepared, the fire is made ready, the furnace is now hot, ready to receive them, the flames do now rage and glow. The glittering sword is whet, and held over them, and the pit hath opened her mouth under them (Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God). Both movements had great significance in changing the way people saw the world. They both were also centered on religion (History in the Making). Not only that, but they are both large spiritual movements that happened around the 1700’s. There were also many differences in the two movements as well. The Great Awakening was more emotional. The Enlightenment however, was full of logic and reasoning.
